MSN Local

August, 2011

Goal

We’ve been working with MSN Local for years to create general interest stories that attract readers and drive page views. Vivid imagery combined with an insider’s guide to city cycling (written by veteran bicycling journalist Karen Kefauver) did the trick. Karen offered a slew of practical information, from bike routes to bike shops. The story played on MSN’s front page and garnered several million page views. It was so successful that MSN featured it on their front page several times in August and September.

Process

We work closely with MSN’s editors, meeting with them every quarter to discuss story ideas, and speaking several times a week to update our calendar of deliverables. We have settled into a very efficient process. Typically, we assign stories for publication within 2-3 weeks, tapping writers with specific “beat” expertise. Turnaround could be as short as a week or less. We field editing questions from MSN’s editors within a day and provide publish-ready text and photos to meet their specific criteria.
